Brady PAC Endorses Rep. Haley Stevens for Re-Election in MI-11

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Brady PAC, the political action partner organization of Brady, one of the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention advocacy groups, today announced it is endorsing Representative Haley Stevens for re-election to Michigan’s 11th Congressional District.

With Brady PAC’s support in 2018 and 2020, the gun safety majority grew in the U.S. House of Representatives, contributing to the passage of historic gun violence prevention legislation, including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021, both of which were supported by Rep. Stevens. The passage of this legislation has made the 117th Congress responsible for the most comprehensive gun-safety reform since the 1994 Brady bill — but there is still work to be done.

Stevens’ vocal leadership has been widely recognized by gun safety advocates, including Parkland father Fred Guttenberg, a senior advisor to Brady PAC. “Haley Stevens is a fighter for a safer Michigan and a safer America. I’m proud to join Brady PAC in endorsing a true champion of democracy and of gun violence prevention.”

Brady PAC’s Executive Director Jason Pressberg added, “Haley Stevens is an absolute powerhouse who fights tooth and nail every day for Michiganders. She has never once backed down from the battle to keep 11th District communities safe from gun violence. We are proud to endorse her re-election to Congress.”

Following the horrific 2021 tragedy at Oxford High School that resulted in the loss of four students, Rep. Stevens renewed her already robust record on gun violence prevention, urging several common-sense gun laws supported by law-abiding gun owners and the majority of Michiganders. Stevens had previously called for expanding Brady background checks, closing the “boyfriend loophole,” and cracking down on ghost guns, among other publicly supported measures.

In response to Brady PAC’s endorsement, Stevens’ campaign noted, “Congresswoman Haley Stevens has been a champion of gun safety measures since she entered Congress in 2019. Even as the gun lobby has spent millions in attempts to defeat her, she has voted for every single piece of legislation aimed at reducing gun violence. She will do whatever it takes to make sure communities and families in Michigan’s 11th district are free from gun violence.”

Today’s action brings the total number of endorsements by Brady PAC in the 2022 election cycle to 150. (See the prior endorsements here). Brady PAC endorsements are based on past voting history and positions taken in support of common-sense gun safety policies, and they will help attract more contributions, volunteers, and voters for the candidates’ campaigns.
