Gun extremism is rejected soundly in statewide and House of Delegates elections,
paves the path forward in 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and its political arm, Brady PAC, hailed sweeping election victories for gun violence prevention champions across Virginia. These successes forcefully reject extremism, mark a historic win for safety, progress, and accountability, and chart a course for more gun safety majorities in 2026. The election results also underscore a clear repudiation of Trump’s policies.
Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger and her gun violence prevention ticket ran proudly on platforms centered around protecting Virginia families, and voters responded overwhelmingly in support. With monumental gains of at least 11 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, led by Speaker Don Scott, Virginians have chosen a government that reflects their values, prioritizes the safety of every resident, and strengthens representation for historically marginalized communities.
“After Governor Youngkin’s veto of key gun violence prevention legislation, this is a turning point for Virginia, and a pivotal moment for the gun violence prevention movement nationwide,” said Kris Brown, President of Brady and Chair of Brady PAC. “Voters sent a clear, undeniable message: they’ve had enough of extreme, reckless policies that make us all less safe. Virginians chose courage over chaos, and commonsense over fearmongering. They voted for a future where every child can live free from gun violence.”
“Under the leadership of Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, Jay Jones, and Speaker Don Scott, Virginia is poised to strengthen the Commonwealth’s gun laws, including holding the gun industry accountable, banning untraceable ghost guns, and improving secure firearm storage. We’re ready to help Virginia lead the nation into a new era of public safety, with unified efforts to pass meaningful gun reform and expand on a proven record of progress and promise,” continued Brown.
This year, Brady PAC proudly endorsed Spanberger, Hashmi, and Jones, in addition to 26 key Virginia House candidates. Targeted support helped flip critical districts, including key challengers such as Jessica Anderson (HD-71), and May Nivar (HD-57), alongside vital incumbents including Delegates Nadarius Clark (HD-84), Michael Feggans (HD-97), and Josh Cole (HD-65).
Brady is committed to working alongside Virginia’s new leadership to ensure that these hard-fought victories are immediately translated into life-saving action.
