Parkland Parent and Survivors Express Gratitude for Vice President Harris’ Visit to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School; Urge Support for Gun Violence Prevention Candidates in 2024

Brady Senior Advisor Fred Guttenberg, and Team ENOUGH Co-Founder Aalayah Eastmond say Vice President Harris is meeting the moment with her visit.

Washington, D.C., March 23, 2024 – Today, Vice President Harris visits the site where 17 students and staff were shot and killed on February 14, 2018. The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida marked a tidal shift in the fight to end gun violence as a new generation, who spent their lives practicing school shooter drills after their contemporaries were killed at Sandy Hook, said ENOUGH was ENOUGH. Brady, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention organization, worked alongside Parkland survivor Aalayah Eastmond to form Team ENOUGH, a youth-led grassroots movement. Both Brady PAC and Team ENOUGH have endorsed President Biden and Vice President Harris for 2024.

Brady is advised by Parkland parent Fred Guttenberg, who will walk alongside Vice President Harris through the hallowed ground where his daughter Jaime Guttenberg was murdered.

Fred Guttenberg, Brady Senior Advisor, said:

“Since the day my daughter Jaime was murdered, President Biden has opened his arms and heart to all of us. He, too, understands the horror of burying your own child, and he has been with us every step of the way. My daughter is dead because of this uniquely American epidemic, and we must put a stop to the American carnage that is robbing us of our children and the people we love.

“This visit is the culmination of six years of activism from the Parkland community, and we could not be more grateful that Vice President Harris is here to show America our reality, to not let anyone forget what happened here. I am incredibly thankful for the presence of the leaders of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention; the creation of this office, and the meaningful work being done will save lives. This administration’s commitment and resolve is why I know we will end gun violence with President Biden and Vice President Harris at the nation’s helm – and why I am so committed to giving this administration a gun violence prevention majority during their second term.

“I visit my daughter at the cemetery now, but I feel her with me every day, and I fight for her, for the future she deserved. And that is a future free from gun violence.”
