Fitzpatrick receives endorsement from two more gun-control groups

Giffords and Moms Demand Action join the Brady PAC in endorsing the Bucks County congressman for his stand on gun safety.

Giffords, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Arizona Congressman Gabrielle Giffords, has endorsed Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, R-1, of Middletown in his bid for re-election.

Fitzpatrick and New Jersey Republican Rep. Chris Smith are the only two Republicans to receive endorsements from the organization, as they have “consistently stood up to the gun lobby and supported gun safety legislation while similarily opposing concealed carry reciprocity — the top priority for the National Rifle Association,” said Jacques Petit, spokesperson for the Giffords organization.

Gabrielle Giffords, who was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt on her life and mass killing of nine people attending a meet and greet with her in January 2011, has been an outspoken proponent of gun safety measures.

Petit said Fitzpatrick “has gone against the grain of his party leadership to support commonsense gun safety legislation. We believe that Congress needs more Republican leaders like Fitzpatrick, and that’s why we’re showing him our support.”
