Brady PAC Endorses Virginia Senate District 37 Candidate Saddam Azlan Salim in June 20th Primary Election

Washington, D.C., June 6, 2023 – Brady PAC, the sister organization of Brady, one of the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention advocacy groups, announced today that it is endorsing Virginia Senate District 37 candidate Saddam Azlan Salim in the June 20 primary election. Saddam Azlan Salim has made it clear that as a State Senator, he would prioritize preventing gun violence, including banning assault weapons and expanding universal background checks in Virginia. Brady is one of the first national gun violence prevention organizations to endorse Salim.

Kris Brown, president of Brady, said:

“Unprecedented times call for unprecedented action. Brady will do all we can to support candidates who distinguish themselves in their willingness to do everything in their power to keep Virginians – especially children – alive. Saddam Azlan Salim has made gun violence prevention a central issue in his campaign for the Virginia State Senate and we are confident he would fight every day to keep Virginians safe. Virginians deserve nothing less, and Brady is proud to endorse Saddam Salim who will usher in a new era of gun safety reform for the commonwealth.”

Ashley Lantz, Brady PAC Executive Director, said:

“Saddam Salim is the only candidate in the Senate District 37 race who is calling for an assault weapons ban among other common-sense gun safety reforms, including restrictions on concealed carry and mandatory waiting periods. Brady PAC’s endorsement of Saddam Salim represents our commitment to ensuring no Virginian will ever need to convince their elected representative to take action against weapons of war.”

Martina Leinz, Brady Virginia President said:

“We at Brady have spent decades doing everything in our power to champion life-saving policies in Virginia like banning assault weapons and strengthening our background check system. Saddam Azlan Salim has shown he is the kind of leader that will also prioritize gun violence prevention every day he is in office. Saddam Aslan Salim will finally give constituents of Fairfax the kind of leadership necessary to pass the kinds of comprehensive life-saving policies that will protect generations to come from the scourge of gun violence.”

Brady PAC is dedicated to a singular goal: creating a safer America by supporting and investing in candidates who are committed to enacting, improving, and defending Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) policies across the country.  It upholds the policy ideals championed by its sister organization, Brady — one of the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention grassroots advocacy organizations.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.

We are better than this.
