Brady PAC Endorses Senator John Hickenlooper for Re-Election

National Gun Violence Prevention PAC backs Colorado leader with a history of decisive action

Today, Brady PAC, the political arm of the Brady Campaign (“Brady”), announced its endorsement of Senator John Hickenlooper for re-election to the U.S. Senate. Hickenlooper is a proven leader who has consistently delivered life-saving reforms for Colorado families.

In the aftermath of the 2012 Aurora movie theater shooting that took 12 lives and injured 70 others, then-Governor Hickenlooper took bold action. He led Colorado through the passage of landmark gun violence prevention laws, including universal background checks and limits on large-capacity magazines – two reforms that prevent firearms from falling into dangerous hands and reduce the lethality of mass shootings. As a member of the U.S. Senate, Hickenlooper has consistently supported common-sense policies including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022 after the Uvalde school shooting that took 19 students and 2 teachers, and funding for community-based violence intervention programs, among others.

“When others offered their thoughts and prayers after the Aurora shooting, John Hickenlooper acted swiftly to ensure that no other Colorado family would know the anguish of losing a loved one to preventable gun violence.” said Kris Brown, Brady PAC board chair and president of Brady. “At a time when the gun lobby vigorously intimidated lawmakers into silence, John Hickenlooper showed courage, leadership, and results. His work as Governor, and now as U.S. Senator, proves that elected officials can take decisive steps to save lives while protecting responsible gun ownership, and we’re honored to endorse him.”

Gun violence survivor Amanda Wilcox of Brady Colorado said, “I lost my daughter, Laura, at age 19 to preventable gun violence in 2001.  My life was changed forever.  When the Aurora shooting happened, I saw families begin an unwanted journey that I knew all too well. What matters most in those moments is whether leaders listen or look away. John Hickenlooper acted, and he continues to act, to make sure that fewer families are forced to live with the kind of pain that mine does. John’s leadership means a great deal to me, and to every parent who hopes to have the opportunity to grow old with their children. We need him in the U.S. Senate.”

“Colorado knows what real leadership looks like, because it has seen it repeatedly in John Hickenlooper. He understands that protecting children and families must always come first,” said Ashley Lantz, executive director of Brady PAC. “His leadership after Aurora helped change the course of public safety in Colorado for the better, and we need him to continue this work in the U.S. Senate.”

Brady PAC will work to elect John Hickenlooper as part of a U.S. Senate majority committed to preventing gun violence and protecting our children, families, and communities.
