Nation’s leading Attorney General earns early endorsement from national gun violence prevention organization
Today, Brady PAC, the political arm of the Brady Campaign, proudly announced its endorsement of California Attorney General Rob Bonta for re-election in 2026. As the state’s top law enforcement official, Bonta has been a relentless and fierce advocate for gun violence prevention and a champion for the safety of every Californian.
“Rob Bonta has never ever been afraid to stand up to the gun industry and fight for the right of every Californian to be safe from gun violence,” said Kris Brown, Brady PAC board chair and president of the Brady Campaign. “From defending California’s lifesaving gun laws in court to championing legislation that holds the deadly gun lobby accountable, and establishing a state office of gun violence prevention, Attorney General Bonta has shown that bold courage and evidence-based policies can and do save lives.”
In response to the endorsement, Attorney General Rob Bonta said, “It’s an honor to have Brady’s support as I run for reelection as California’s Attorney General. As the state’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer, protecting public safety is job number one, and tackling the gun violence epidemic is at the top of the list. At the California DOJ we’re defending, enforcing, and strengthening California’s gun safety laws; removing illicit firearms from our neighborhoods; going after ghost guns; and shining a light on the solutions we need to pursue. Gun violence is America’s disease, but it does not have to be —California’s progress over the last three decades is proof. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to stand on the frontlines of this fight with Brady as we continue to rid our state of the scourge of gun violence.”
Attorney General Rob Bonta has been a driving force in the fight to curb gun violence throughout his time in office. He has aggressively defended California’s life saving gun laws, including its assault weapons ban, large-capacity magazine restrictions, ammunition background checks, silencer regulations, safe handgun roster, and sensitive place designations in federal court. The Attorney General also developed the first of its kind Office of Gun Violence Prevention in 2022.
Bonta has also cracked down on the proliferation of untraceable ghost guns through enforcement and advocacy. He has held the gun industry accountable, including supporting efforts to allow civil suits against irresponsible gun manufacturers and dealers. Importantly, Attorney General Bonta has worked to expand access to community violence intervention (CVI) programs that prevent gun violence before it happens.
“Gun violence is not inevitable, it’s always preventable. Attorney General Bonta has consistently prioritized the safety of California families and communities. We proudly endorse his re-election so he can continue his life-saving work, and we urge voters to send Bonta back to Sacramento to continue his fight for a safer California,” said Ashley Lantz, executive director of Brady PAC.
