Brady PAC Applauds Reports of New White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, Credits Biden-Harris with “Historic” Commitment to Public Safety

WASHINGTONBrady PAC, the political arm of Brady, today applauded President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the anticipated launch of a new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Organizations including Brady, and gun violence survivors including Brady PAC senior advisor Fred Guttenberg, have been instrumental in calling for such an office to elevate the issue of gun violence prevention and ensure the federal government’s efforts are well-coordinated.

“When we say that elections matter, this is exactly what we mean. As both senator and president, Joe Biden has made gun violence prevention a priority, and this is the latest sign of his commitment to saving lives,” said Ashley Lantz, Brady PAC’s executive director. “Brady PAC strongly supports this new office and will continue to support courageous policymakers who share President Biden’s longstanding dedication to ending gun violence in America.”

Brady PAC issued early endorsements of the Biden-Harris ticket in the 2020 and 2024 election cycles based on their historic commitment to and action on public safety. Last year, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that expanded background checks and prevented domestic abusers from owning guns. President Biden also successfully appointed the second Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Director in 15 years; delivered a historic investment of federal funds for gun violence prevention and intervention programs; and issued a series of executive orders to reduce gun violence.

“My friend Joe Biden fights like hell to protect other parents from the pain that we feel every day from losing our beloved Jaime. His record on gun violence prevention is unprecedented and unmatched,” said gun violence survivor and Brady PAC senior advisor Fred Guttenberg. “I know that the Office of Gun Violence Prevention will accomplish a great deal in protecting our children.”

“I am grateful for the President’s action today to address the gun violence crisis. I look forward to working with the Administration and groups like Brady to take immediate action in Congress to pass common-sense policies that will ensure that no other child gunshot victim ends up on my operating table, or in any operating room,” said Air Force veteran and trauma surgeon Dr. Brian Williams, U.S. House candidate in Texas’s Thirty-Second Congressional District.

Brady PAC was created in 2018 to counter the gun industry lobby’s dark money Super PACs. Brady PAC endorses gun violence prevention champions who support common-sense gun safety policies, including universal background checks, safe storage, and a ban on new assault weapons.
