WASHINGTON – Brady PAC today announced its endorsement of gun violence survivor Andrei Cherny for the U.S. House of Representatives, for Arizona’s First Congressional District.
Cherny, a former Naval intelligence officer and Assistant Attorney General for Arizona, founded a business that helps people ensure their deposits and investments are not used to fund gun manufacturers. After growing up in a neighborhood and apartment building wracked by gun violence, he has become a dedicated gun violence prevention leader.
“We need more common-sense leaders with courage in Congress like Andrei Cherny,” said Fred Guttenberg, Parkland survivor and Brady PAC National Advisory Council leader. “Having worked with him over the years to stem the tide of guns, I am convinced that Andrei will take decisive action in Congress to protect the freedom and safety of Arizona residents and the country. We are honored to endorse him for election.”
Cherny’s wife and two children were across the street from the site of the gun massacre in Tucson, Arizona in 2011 that killed six people and wounded 18 others, including then-Representative Gabrielle Giffords. Since that tragedy, Cherny has consistently called for stronger gun safety laws, better enforcement of laws already on the books, and additional resources for community organizations and law enforcement agencies to prevent gun violence. He was a strong national leader of CEOs for Gun Safety. In 2019, his company, Aspiration, offered to pay for the shifts of Walmart workers who protested the company’s sale of firearms.
“Children and families in Arizona’s first congressional district cannot depend on David Schweikert — a gun extremist, conspiracy theorist, and failed leader,” said Ashley Lantz, executive director of Brady PAC. “Andrei Cherny offers fresh leadership and will serve his district with honor and distinction. We urge voters to send him to Washington.”
Cherny is the fourth gun violence survivor and federal candidate endorsed by Brady PAC this year.

Brady PAC, the political arm of Brady, was created in 2018 to counter the gun industry lobby’s dark money Super PACs. Brady PAC endorses gun violence prevention champions who support common-sense gun safety policies, including universal background checks, safe storage, and a ban on new assault weapons.
Brady PAC is dedicated to a singular goal: creating a safer America by supporting and investing in candidates who are committed to enacting, improving, and defending Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) policies across the country. It upholds the policy ideals championed by its sister organization – one of the nation’s oldest GVP grassroots advocacy organizations.
